Happy Valentine’s Day

14 Feb

I was once a skeptic of Valentine’s Day. Always felt that Valentine’s Day was no more than a commercialized occasion for florists, gift shops and confectionaries to gain extra profit from.

We do not need to fall into the hands of commercialization. For I have learnt that (as cliche as it sounds) the best gifts are made from the heart. Whatever the gift, as long as it thought with the heart. It’s the thought that counts.

Well, except for the flowers. Since it’s almost impossible to grow roses just in time for February. Valentine’s cards, all you need is pen & paper or a computer with photoshop and a printer. It doesn’t matter if your handwriting sucks because it’s the thought that counts but seriously, try your best.

Six years of primary school and every single year, my teachers have no praise nor complaints except that my handwriting needed improvement. Yet! I picked up the pen and drafted a letter for my Valentine’s.

Heart-shaped cookies? Youtube, google the recipe. B-I-Y (Bake-It-Yourself). Whatever the outcome, your efforts will be appreciated. Same goes for the meals.

Then again, I’m a Valentine’s skeptic turned lucky S.O.B. I got a girl that requested that since Valentine’s Day this year was gonna be on a Monday and I’m sucha workaholic that we should celebrate earlier!

A simple brunch at her favourite place and a gotta watch movie after that would suffice.

Last year, my Valentine’s Day dinner plans went well till after dinner when we got lost in the Botanical Gardens and then again she didn’t mind. She was the one who found the way out.

Am I lucky or what? This year, we gave each other the best presents yet and it’s been amaza-zing!

As stressful as it may be to plan a day or find a suitable present for Valentine’s, it gets even worse. From the time it is wrapped or when the day slowly reveals itself, your heart feels like it’s going to explode with anxiety not knowing if it is good enough till it is fully unwrapped.

Call me sick or perverted, but that sorta feeling keeps me excited. It makes me look forward to every gift giving occasion. Seeing that gorgeous smile makes everything worthwhile. Like I said, I’m lucky S.O.B because if it turns out to be a bad gift all I need to do is be a goof and I will still get to see that gorgeous smile.

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!
